'Carpal tunnel syndrome' is compression of median nerve at palmer aspect of wrist joint.
It causes pain in hand and wrist, weakness of hand, a shock like sensation and reduced grip strength of hand which causes things to fall of from hand.
There is numbness and tingling sensation in hand specially in the thumb, index finger and ring finger.
Pain occurs when the wrist is bent.
Pain is worse at night.
Symptoms aggrevate when the hand is bent forward.
There can be burning sensation in middle and index finger.
Treatment includes conservative management with medicine, exercises and active treatment like steroid injections or surgical release of the tight band over median nerve in severe and nonresponsive cases.
